Historic Neighborhoods/

Old Towne

This expansive neighborhood east of downtown reflects the city’s growth in earlier years through its collection of postwar cottages, mid-century modern ranch homes and turn-of-the-century Victorian masterpieces.  This quiet and friendly neighborhood still counts among its residents successive generations of Plano’s early families.

Douglass Community

Located just south and west of Downtown Plano south of 14th between Avenues G and K, the Douglass Community is the historic home of Plano’s early black population.  Still active today, it boasts the future Plano African American Museum, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, and the always-busy Douglass Community Center.  An impressive tile mural at its eastern boundary along the DART light rail track records the proud record of its residents both past and present, and their commitment to the future of their neighborhood and city.

Haggard Park Heritage Resource District

Just north of Haggard Park and south of 18th Street is the Haggard Park Heritage Resource District, home to a diverse mix of friendly and interesting residents. Pick up a walking tour brochure at the Interurban Museum and enjoy an afternoon stroll along our tree-lined streets where beautiful historic homes tell the architectural and social history of early Plano.

Haggard Addition

The Haggard Addition subdivision is considered Plano's oldest, most intact example of a post-World War II neighborhood.  The 114 mostly ranch-style houses nestled just north of downtown (between 18th and 22nd Streets on the north and south, and Avenues G and I on the east and west) were built to provide quality housing for returning soldiers and their young families.  A strong sense of neighborhood identity is still enjoyed here today, by residents old and new.
