In Downtown Plano you can see an array of art performances and exhibits to suit just about any taste. At Courtyard Theater you can take in a play, ArtCentre offers the work of acclaimed local and national artists, and our local eateries offer live music at night and weekends.

event1013-  an Experiential Gallery – Events. Art. Food. Music. Fun. One of the original, historical buildings in downtown Plano renovated in a contemporary urban style with a beautiful and spacious Main Gallery featuring a huge video wall and a Raw Garden in the rear of the building. Artists, companies and individuals are invited to Design Your Own Event in our Main Gallery, Raw Garden or both! The ArtCentre of plano - Now in its new location in the historic Olney Davis House at 901 18th St.

Michael Holter Creative - fine art in a variety of medias. Michael Holter offers services from watercolor art to advertising design.

Legacy Portrait Painters – Fine art portraits by appointment. From children to adult, portrait sittings are relatively short and comfortable.

   

Theaters

Courtyard Theater - Plano 's beautiful Courtyard Theater is located in the Haggard Park Historic District, immediately adjacent to downtown Plano . A 1938 Works Progress Administration (WPA) project, The Cox Gymnasium has been a significant building in Plano 's history, and has long exemplified the cultural and social heritage of Plano , Texas.

Cox Building - The Cox Building is used to house the City's Creative Arts offices, a small theater space, classrooms, an art studio, and PISD administrative offices. The venue is used for smaller venues and workshops.

RoverDramawerks - Rover Dramawerks produces lost or forgotten works of well-known authors, revives excellent scripts that suffered from lack of exposure and discovers unknown gems of the stage.  Additionally, adult classes in theatre performance, interpretation and production are taught by area professionals.

Plano Symphony Orchestra - The Plano Symphony offers a comprehensive program for all Plano, Frisco, and Wylie fourth graders and private school and home-schooled children. The Plano Symphony has chosen to be a professional orchestra with compensated artistic and management personnel and has sought to attain its high artistic standards through solid institutional planning and faithful adherence to principles of sound non-profit management.

Attractions

Downtown Walking Tour - Most of Plano’s designated historic structures are located within walking distance of the downtown area.  The Interurban Railway Museum offers a walking tour brochure with map and descriptions of over a dozen restored historic homes and buildings.

Thornton House - The Thornton House was built in the Douglass Community around 1900 on land originally owned by Emily Elizabeth Aston, a white Virginia land owner. The historic Thornton House, saved by preservationists, will be relocated off the 12th street circle near the DART wall is slated to be an African-American museum and cultural center. Construction is ongoing with Grand Opening planned later in 2009.

The Carpenter House - The Carpenter House is a Victorian home built in 1898, hosting Garden and Candlelight Weddings, Receptions, Rehearsal Dinners, Bridal Luncheons, Showers, Bridal Portraits, Anniversaries, Parties, Special Occasions, and Business Meetings of every description.

Museums

Plano African American Museum - PAAM (Plano African American Museum) will highlight history of African American life, culture, and art in the context of Plano and North Texas , using artifacts and other historical representations.

Interurban Railway Museum - Located in downtown Plano , the Interurban Railway Museum is housed in a building that served as a primary stop on the Texas Electric Railway that ran from Denison to Dallas beginning in 1908 and ending on December 31, 1948. The station remained closed until early 1990 when a complete restoration of the building was completed and the building was converted into a museum by the City of Plano . The museum exhibit contains many artifacts associated with the Interurban Line, as well as a history of Plano .
